The SELPA provides autism support to staff, students, parents, and district teams within the 43 LEAs in Sonoma County. The SELPA offers support for students, impacted to varying degrees, with autism spectrum disorders. These support services include consultation in various areas related to autism, such as social communication skills, inclusion strategies, Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) and positive behavior support. Professional learning, coaching, and positive behavioral supports are provided to assist staff and families in developing effective and quality programming for students with ASD. Training opportunities related to ASD are available throughout the school year.
In addition, the Sonoma County SELPA participates in the California Autism Professional Training and Information Network (CAPTAIN) project. The SELPA is a member of Region 6, which includes San Francisco USD, and Marin, San Mateo, Napa, and Solano counties, as well as Golden Gate and North Bay Regional Centers. Regional representatives participate in collaborative meetings throughout the school year to design and carry out goals established to meet the needs of LEAs in supporting and promoting ongoing awareness and professional learning of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Evidence Based Practices.
